The Crisis in Yemen

& how Sphinx plans on helping

Sphinx was built on the brand of feel good jewelry. It is a great eco friendly and sustainable shop focused on creating clean and handcrafted jewelry. However, Sphinx expands its wings by shedding light and donating to the terrible crisis in Yemen.

Yemen is currently one of the worst countries for a child to live in as it is facing a conflict which has been ongoing for more than 4 years. Thousands of children have been killed or maimed in a war not of their making and the combined risk of conflict, disease and malnutrition is a daily reality for these children. Those who survive will live with the scars of conflict.

The entire country faces an enormous humanitarian catastrophe compounded by violence, currency depreciation, lack of essential commodities, non-payment of salaries for civil servants and collapsing of basic social services.

Sphinx is proud to say that we donate a third of our profits directly to help fight for this cause. Sphinx has partnered alongside UNICEF Yemen to bring food, shelter, education, vaccination, & equality to this struggling nation. 

UNICEF is working around the clock with humanitarian partners to continue providing lifesaving assistance to children and families, including health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education and child protection.

In the last two years, UNICEF has expanded its programmes in Yemen in both scale and scope to become one of the biggest UNICEF programmes in the world in response to the increasing needs of the population in the country in general, and children and mothers in particular.

UNICEF is focusing on health system strengthening, improving access to primary healthcare by providing supplies and responding to communicable disease outbreaks, and community prevention and management of malnutrition. The Water, sanitation and hygiene programme supports rehabilitation and sustainability of local water management systems to increase access to safe water. Acute watery diarrhea/cholera prevention and response is focusing on high-risk districts, including through provision of oral cholera vaccines. Vulnerable children are supported through survivor assistance, education on mines/ explosive remnants of war and resilience building. UNICEF continues to rehabilitate damaged schools, establish temporary safe learning spaces and provide learning/pedagogical kits.

Thanks to our partners across Yemen, we have been able to provide support to millions of children:

• treated over 347,000 severely malnourished children

• delivered safe drinking water to over 5 million people

• vaccinated more than 4.6 million children against polio

• reached 1.4 million of the poorest people in the country through our large-scale cash assistance programme, which has become a lifeline to many poor families struggling to bring food to their tables or send their children to school.
